Mercury (Variations II: Mystic Doodle)by *skeegoedhart

To create this series I developed a process that involved casting a live model using dental alginate. This alginate mold was filled with liquid plasticine which when dried was used as a base for a 'mother mold' made from silicon and fiberglass - from this mother mold i was able to produce 2-3 highly detailed, dimensional fiberglass paintings which were painted or covered with gold or silver leaf. Even though they hang on the wall they rise beyond the frame, in some places more than 6 inches.

A few years ago I was invited to Las Vegas to attend the largest fashion show in the world: The M.A.G.I.C. convention. I decided that I would display a few finished pieces and also bring a blank, shell to paint during the event.

I painted for 3 days straight. Each morning I would walk around the hundreds of stalls and 'soak up' all the chaos, and this is what came out. . . Looking at this piece immediately, brings me back to that place evoking all those sights, sounds and incredible people.
